Water Facts:

Percent Tested

Only 15-20% of Minnesota lakes and streams have been tested.

The U.S. Clean Water Act requires states to monitor and assess their waters to determine if they are attaining water-quality standards.  The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency collects water quality data from state, local and federal agencies, as well as citizens. Due to limited resources, only a small percentage of Minnesota’s river and stream miles and lakes have been assessed so far.
